Located on vibrant Hollywood Boulevard, HomeState is a standout destination for Tex-Mex enthusiasts and breakfast aficionados alike. This lively restaurant masterfully blends traditional Mexican and Texan flavors, serving an expertly crafted menu that feels both authentic and comforting. Whether you're craving a hearty morning meal or a casual takeout option, HomeState delivers with an approachable yet refined dining experience.
The heart of HomeState’s menu lies in its breakfast and brunch offerings, notably the famed breakfast tacos — a rare gem in Los Angeles that rivals even those found in Texas. Each taco comes wrapped in what feels like a lovingly handmade, fresh flour tortilla, dusted lightly with flour and boasting a tender, pillowy texture that evokes memories of home-cooked meals. Tried-and-true favorites like the Brisket Tacos and Lonestar Migas brim with bold, smoky brisket, sharp cheddar, and vibrant pico de gallo, creating a harmony of rich and fresh notes with every bite. Vegetarians will appreciate the Classic Migas featuring buttery scrambled eggs, monterey jack cheese, and crispy tortilla chips.
Other dishes such as the Huevos Con Frijoles Charros and the Brisket Sandwich continue the tradition of Tex-Mex comfort food elevated to satisfying new heights. The Big Queso dip is a must-try, creamy and indulgent, perfect for sharing alongside crunchy Cowboy Cup Chips—an ideal contrast of textures and flavors. Sweet lovers won’t want to miss the delicate, cinnamon-sugar kissed Buñuelos or the deeply satisfying Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie, with its rich dark chocolate and flaky Maldon salt.
Complement your meal with HomeState’s thoughtfully curated beverage options. The Ranchwater and Frozen Spicy Paloma cocktails boast refreshing, zesty notes that invigorate the palate, while the Homestate Coffee Beans bring robust, aromatic depth for coffee lovers. The friendly and laidback atmosphere here, praised repeatedly by guests such as Ruben K. and Cooper Olson, encourages diners to relax and savor every bite in good company. Staff members are warm and welcoming, adding a sense of genuine hospitality that turns a simple meal into a memorable experience.
While most visitors leave with a smile, there’s a testament to the staff’s professionalism even when things go awry: one customer noted prompt and courteous handling of an order mix-up, demonstrating that HomeState values customer satisfaction above all.
In essence, HomeState is a Californian homage to Tex-Mex simplicity and heartiness, where quality ingredients meet passionate preparation. For those in Los Angeles craving authentic breakfast tacos, savory quesos, and a comforting, vibrant vibe, HomeState is not just a meal — it’s a flavorful escape to Texas without ever leaving the city.
We were in town for the weekend and decided to pop in. So glad we did. I love a simple and well executed menu. Breakfast tacos are non existent in the Bay Area. I appreciated the presumably handmade flour tortillas. The texture and flour (dust on hands) made them feel like mom made them. The fillings were tasty. The salsas were both flavorful. Loved the queso, so yummy. Great coffee. Simple.
This location was very disappointing!!! I ordered 3 trinity tacos with extra bacon. When I got my tacos there was no bacon. I spoke to one of the supervisors and asked for a refund. He was very polite and gave me my refund. He offered to remake them I said no thank you that's ok and was leaving. He was so sad that I didn't get what I ordered and said don't leave I'll put your order in anyway on the house. I said that's ok but he insisted. I said ok but I'll pay for it. It's not necessary. Again he insisted. I said ok and waited for my order. Everything was ok up to this point. As I waited for my order another supervisor came out and said her manager said I have to pay for the tacos. I told her that I offered but the other supervisor said it was on the house. Then this supervisor said he is new and cannot authorize that transaction per my manager. I said that this is very poor customer service. One supervisor said it's on the house. The other supervisor said no and the manager said I have to pay. Too much confusion for 3 tacos. I said no thanks and left. I had the money to pay. I left because it was too messy and I didn't want any problems with my food after this unfortunate situation. I feel that when you promote someone to supervision and then contradict them in front of the customer and reverse their decision is not cool. I felt really bad for the the supervisor who was trying to help me. Again I had the money and was leaving until the supervisor insisted on making things right. I do not recommend this location at all!!! Stay clear.!!!!
HomeState is amazing! The tacos are out of this world, and the whole place has such a friendly, laid-back vibe. The staff is super nice, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. It’s the perfect spot to chill with friends and enjoy some seriously good food. I had a great breakfast tacos! Definitely a must-visit for taco lovers!
The best breakfast tacos I have ever had! This place is amazing, please come visit, The workers were super nice, and it has great vibes. 10/10
We stopped by HomeState and had such a good experience. We tried a mix of breakfast tacos — 3 Neches, 1 Brisket, and 1 Frio — plus a Big Queso dip to share and their hibiscus lemonade. The tacos were fresh and flavorful, with the Neches (eggs + beans + cheddar) being simple but really satisfying, and the brisket one standing out as rich and smoky. The queso was creamy, loaded, and big enough for the table — definitely worth ordering. The hibiscus lemonade was refreshing and balanced, not overly sweet. The place itself is a little on the small side inside, but they have outdoor seating which made it really enjoyable to sit, eat, and relax. Overall: generous portions, great flavors, and friendly vibes. Perfect spot if you’re craving Texas-style breakfast tacos in LA.
Overall amazing experience! The breakfast was killer and so fresh. I love the staff here. They’re always friendly. From a branding perspective, they do an awesome job of creating a unique experience and vibe I’ve enjoyed sitting outdoors and indoors, depending on time of day. Prices are fair. Especially because the tacos are bigger than average. If I’m not hangry, I could personally be good with one. I rated it a 4 instead of a five because when I came back tonight for dinner around 6:30, my taco was had started to cool into the shape of the foil it was wrapped in, and didn’t taste very fresh. Yet, I still had a good time because of the staff. I’ll give it another shot. I think this place can and will do better. And even kinda cold, it was better than the one I’d just tried down the street
